Waterproof Cast Cover

Having to wear a cast is really uncomfortable, I know. But once “the damage is done”, you should take the appropriate measure to make this cast-wearing period as comfortable as possible. And having a waterproof cast cover is kind of a package deal. Even if you think “Hm, I could wear a garbage bag over my cast while I’m showering”, that’s a bad idea for several reasons. The most important one is that a bag does not guarantee you won’t get your cast soaking wet, no matter how tight you secure it.

Even more, a waterproof cast cover isn’t really that big of an investment, so why not spend a couple of dozens of dollars to keep your cast dry?

Choosing the right cover first depends on the body part: you have waterproof cast covers for both arms and legs. Size is also important, as there are waterproof cast covers for children and others for adults. Every time you check out a product page, make sure that before ordering the product, you have chosen the size appropriate for your needs.

DryPro Waterproof Cast Cover, Small

This cast cover measures 3 x 3.5 x 1 inches and is made of surgical latex. The circumference of this cover is 6.75 inches to 8.75 inches (17-22 cm). Since size is super important, you should go to the manufacturer’s website and pick the size you need.

Sealing the top of the cover so the water doesn’t get in is easy: it lays flat on your skin and is pretty much skin tight. It stretches over the cast, so your entire arm is safe and dry. This product is ideal not only for bath time, but also when you want to go swimming or for a walk in the rain.

Duro-Med Leg Waterproof Cast Cover

We really liked this Duro-Med leg waterproof cast cover because it’s not only for casts, but also useful to protect bandages, splints, burns, rashes, lacerations, prosthesis and more. Ok, I’ll have to admit: aesthetically speaking, this waterproof cast cover looks horrible, but the specs show that this baby can really do its job.

It’s made 100% out of vinyl, which is a fabric very well-known for its waterproofing capabilities. You can put on this cover with a single hand, which means you won’t need any help in doing so. Since it’s reusable, it’s a way better choice than a plastic bag. Since this waterproof cast cover is designed for your leg, it’s important to mention that it’s safe to stand on it even in the shower. You are not in danger of slipping and breaking anything else. It’s also safe to stand on carpets or slick surfaces. With 23 inches in length, it will fit most adults.

LimbO Waterproof Cast Cover

If you’re allergic to latex, this is the best product you can buy. The wide band is made of neoprene and it will ensure a tight seal, so no water will ever get in. Even with its tightness, this waterproof cast cover is gentle on your leg and won’t restrict blood flow. Even if it’s recommended for showering, bathing might not be such a good idea, as the band would have to be very tight in order to prevent water flowing in.

Please take note that the hole is not adjustable, so you will have to order either the slim or the large version and work your way around that. Another thing you should be wary of is fitting this waterproof cast cover over an orthopedic boot, as it might not fit.

Jenny Foster

I'm Jenny. I moved to rainy Ireland several years ago and I had to learn how to be prepared for the constant spring/fall that is the weather on the Emerald Isle. If you're always cold, always miserable because of the rain, maybe it's not the weather at fault (all the time 😀 ). A wise man once told me that there's no bad weather, just bad clothes. So I acted accordingly 🙂
